Position Overview:
The Shift Engineer (Electrical) is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within a facility. This role involves overseeing electrical infrastructure, troubleshooting electrical issues, and coordinating with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and ensure safety and compliance. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in electrical engineering, technical proficiency, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Electrical System Maintenance:
- Conducting routine inspections of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify potential issues or abnormalities.
- Performing preventive maintenance tasks on electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, generators, and distribution panels.
- Executing predictive maintenance techniques such as thermography and vibration analysis to anticipate and prevent equipment failures.
- Responding promptly to electrical breakdowns or emergencies and implementing corrective actions to restore functionality.
2. Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Diagnosing electrical problems using testing equipment, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Troubleshooting issues related to power distribution, circuitry, motors, controls, and instrumentation.
- Repairing or replacing faulty electrical components, wiring, connectors, and other parts as necessary.
- Conducting root cause analysis to identify underlying causes of recurring electrical failures and implementing solutions to prevent future occurrences.
3. Safety and Compliance:
- Ensuring compliance with electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards applicable to the facility.
- Implementing safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks associated with electrical work.
- Conducting safety inspections and audits of electrical systems and equipment to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety guidelines.
- Providing training and guidance to staff on electrical safety practices and procedures.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and equipment history.
- Generating reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and compliance status.
- Documenting modifications, upgrades, and repairs made to electrical systems for future reference.
5. Team Collaboration:
- Collaborating with other engineering and maintenance teams to coordinate work schedules, prioritize tasks, and share technical expertise.
- Providing guidance and support to junior technicians and maintenance staff as needed.
- Communicating effectively with supervisors, peers, and external contractors to ensure alignment of goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Proven experience in electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, preferably in an industrial or commercial setting.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and components.
- Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NEC, NFPA).
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience using electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to work in shifts and respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours.
