Roles & Responsibilities of a Steward in a Restaurant
1. Guest Service
Welcome and seat guests courteously.
Present menu and assist in making food & beverage choices.
Take orders accurately and pass them to the kitchen/bar.
Serve food and beverages with proper etiquette.
Ensure guest satisfaction by attending to their needs promptly.
2. Table & Floor Management
Set up dining tables with cutlery, crockery, and glassware.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area.
Clear tables after meals and reset for the next guests.
Assist in managing table reservations and guest flow.
3. Communication & Coordination
Coordinate between guests, kitchen, and cashier for smooth service.
Report guest feedback/complaints to the Captain or Restaurant Manager.
Support senior staff during peak hours.
4. Hygiene & Safety
Follow all hygiene and sanitation standards.
Ensure food is served at the correct temperature and presentation.
Adhere to restaurant SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
5. Additional Duties
Upsell menu items (suggestive selling).
Assist in room service (if part of hotel restaurants).
Sometimes help in stock replenishment and side duties like polishing cutlery.
