Job Summary :

Roles & Responsibilities of a Steward in a Restaurant

1. Guest Service

  • Welcome and seat guests courteously.

  • Present menu and assist in making food & beverage choices.

  • Take orders accurately and pass them to the kitchen/bar.

  • Serve food and beverages with proper etiquette.

  • Ensure guest satisfaction by attending to their needs promptly.

2. Table & Floor Management

  • Set up dining tables with cutlery, crockery, and glassware.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area.

  • Clear tables after meals and reset for the next guests.

  • Assist in managing table reservations and guest flow.

3. Communication & Coordination

  • Coordinate between guests, kitchen, and cashier for smooth service.

  • Report guest feedback/complaints to the Captain or Restaurant Manager.

  • Support senior staff during peak hours.

4. Hygiene & Safety

  • Follow all hygiene and sanitation standards.

  • Ensure food is served at the correct temperature and presentation.

  • Adhere to restaurant SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

5. Additional Duties

  • Upsell menu items (suggestive selling).

  • Assist in room service (if part of hotel restaurants).

  • Sometimes help in stock replenishment and side duties like polishing cutlery.
