Job Summary:
The General Duty Assistant (GDA) is responsible for providing basic bedside care and daily assistance to patients, elderly individuals, or clients under medical supervision. The role involves supporting patients in maintaining hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and comfort while ensuring their dignity, safety, and well-being at all times. GDAs act as a bridge between the patient, their family, and the medical or nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assistance & Hygiene:
Assist patients with bathing, grooming, dressing, and maintaining personal hygiene.
Help with toileting and diaper changing where required.
Maintain cleanliness of patient’s surroundings, bedding, and personal items.
Feeding & Nutrition:
Serve meals to patients as per the diet plan prescribed by the doctor or nurse.
Support patients who are unable to feed themselves.
Monitor and record food and fluid intake, if required.
Mobility & Comfort:
Assist patients in movement, walking, turning, and positioning to prevent bedsores.
Help in using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids.
Ensure patient comfort and respond promptly to their needs.
Health Monitoring:
Observe and report changes in patient condition (vital signs, appetite, behavior, etc.) to the nurse or supervisor.
Assist in measuring temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure (if trained).
Support during minor medical procedures under nurse supervision.
Supportive Services:
Escort patients to diagnostic tests or appointments, if required.
Maintain records of patient activities and observations as instructed.
Follow infection control and safety protocols at all times.
Communication & Conduct:
Communicate politely and professionally with patients, attendants, and medical staff.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and records.
Exhibit empathy, patience, and discipline in all interactions.
Working Conditions:
Shift: 12-hour or 24-hour duty, as per assignment.
Accommodation & Meals: Provided by the Company as per policy.
Location Flexibility: Candidate should be open to work across client locations (homecare, hospital, or old-age homes).
Dress Code: Company uniform must be worn during duty hours.
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum 10th Pass (Preference: Certified GDA under NSDC or equivalent program).
Prior experience in patient care, hospital, or homecare setting preferred.
Basic knowledge of hygiene, infection control, and first aid.
Physically fit and emotionally stable.
Good communication skills and compassionate attitude.
