The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for maintenance of Laboratory Plant,equipment accessories and rendering assistance in laboratory work in connection with research analytical work. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by officers authorized in this behalf.
 

Responsibilities and duties

• Sample management: Collect, label, and prepare samples such as coal, ore, metal waste, and alloys for testing.
• Testing: Conduct routine tests to determine the physical and chemical properties of samples, including moisture, ash, volatile matter, or other characteristics.
• Data recording: Accurately record test results and maintain laboratory logs and other documentation.
• Lab maintenance: Clean and maintain lab equipment, sterilize supplies, and ensure the laboratory is clean and organized.
• Safety and compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, use appropriate PPE, and dispose of waste materials according to safety and environmental standards.
• Support: Assist senior lab assistants and metallurgists with more complex tasks and analyses. 

Qualifications and skills

• Education: A high school diploma with a focus on science (like chemistry or physics) is often the minimum. A certificate or associate degree in a related field like laboratory science or chemistry is frequently preferred.
• Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical fitness, as tasks may involve lifting sample bags.
