Job Summary:

We are seeking a technically competent and field-experienced Fire Hydrant Technician responsible for inspection, testing, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs of fire hydrant, sprinkler and drencher systems. The role is essential to ensure hydraulic reliability, statutory compliance, and uninterrupted availability of fire-fighting water infrastructure in accordance with applicable fire safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

·        Carry out inspection, testing, and maintenance of hydrants points, landing valves, hydrant mains, and associated appurtenances etc in accordance with NFPA 25, NBC of India, and local Fire Authority norms.

·        Perform hydrant flow tests using pitot gauge/flow meter, including recording static pressure, residual pressure, and flow rate, and verify adequacy against system design criteria.

·        Inspect , Service and functionally test all types of pumps

o   Auto/manual start operation

o   Pressure cut-in and cut-out settings

o   Pump discharge pressure and flow performance

·        Conduct routine preventive maintenance activities such as:

o   Lubrication of valve stems and operating nuts

o   Flushing of hydrant lines to remove silt, rust, and debris

o   Internal cleaning of hydrant barrels and valve assemblies

·        Identify and rectify defects in hydrant system components, including:

o   Landing valves, hydrant valves, caps, nozzles, gaskets, stems, and chains

o   Leakage through valve seats, bonnet joints, and flange connections

·        Demonstrate sound technical knowledge of NRV (Non-Return Valve) systems, including:

o   Inspection of swing/check valves

o   Replacement of rubber dish washers

o   Verification of backflow prevention

·        Check integrity and condition of:

o   Underground and above-ground hydrant piping

o   Isolation valves, sluice valves, and butterfly valves

o   Pipe supports, corrosion protection, and alignment

·        Maintain accurate documentation of inspections and tests, including:

o   Flow test records

o   Pump test results

o   Deficiency reports and rectification status

·        Attend emergency calls related to hydrant leakages, pump failures, pressure drops, or valve malfunctions, ensuring rapid system restoration.

·        Assist in identifying buried or non-visible hydrants and updating as-built drawings, hydrant layouts, and asset registers, etc.

Requirements:

·        Diploma in Fire & Safety Engineering or equivalent qualification; technical or vocational training preferred.

·        Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in fire hydrant maintenance or water-based fire protection systems.

·        Sound working knowledge of fire hydrant system components, operation, and maintenance practices.

·        Familiarity with NFPA 25, applicable local fire authority norms, and statutory fire safety requirements.

·        Basic yet practical plumbing and mechanical repair skills, including valve and joint maintenance.

·        Ability to operate and interpret readings from testing instruments such as flow gauges, pitot tubes, and pressure recorders.

·        Physically fit to carry out outdoor fieldwork, including lifting, kneeling, and working under varying site and weather conditions.

·        Effective communication and technical reporting skills, with the ability to document findings clearly and accurately.
