The Production & Quality Engineer will be responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling production activities while ensuring that products meet defined quality standards, specifications, and customer requirements.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing and production processes.
- Knowledge of inspection and testing methods.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and technical documents.
- Basic knowledge of electrical/electronic components and assemblies.
- Knowledge of root-cause analysis and problem-solving techniques.
- Familiarity with 7 QC tools, CAPA, 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis, and basic statistical quality control.
- Knowledge of BIS/IS standards and product compliance requirements will be an advantage.
- Good working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and ERP/MRP systems.
Key Responsibilities
A. Production Planning & Execution
- Plan and monitor daily and weekly production activities as per customer orders and production schedules.
- Ensure timely availability of materials, components, manpower, machines, tools, and other production requirements.
- Monitor production progress against planned targets and report deviations.
- Ensure production is carried out as per approved BOMs, drawings, work instructions, specifications, and process requirements.
- Coordinate with Stores for timely issue of required materials and components.
- Coordinate with Maintenance for machine breakdowns and preventive maintenance requirements.
- Identify production bottlenecks and take corrective action in coordination with the concerned departments.
- Monitor productivity, cycle time, output, downtime, rejection, and rework.
B. Quality Control
- Establish and maintain appropriate in-process and final inspection procedures.
- Inspect and verify raw materials/components, in-process products, and finished products as applicable.
- Ensure products conform to approved specifications, drawings, samples, and applicable standards.
- Maintain inspection reports, test records, quality check sheets, and other quality documentation.
- Identify defects, deviations, and non-conformities and ensure timely corrective action.
- Monitor rejection and rework levels and work towards reducing them.
- Ensure proper segregation and identification of rejected/non-conforming materials.
- Coordinate with suppliers regarding quality issues where required.
C. Process Control & Improvement
- Monitor manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for improving productivity and quality.
- Develop and implement SOPs, work instructions, process checklists, and inspection standards.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring production and quality problems.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Work towards reducing material wastage, rejection, rework, downtime, and production losses.
- Support implementation of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
D. Testing & Product Compliance
- Ensure required electrical, mechanical, functional, and safety tests are carried out as per product specifications and applicable standards.
- Maintain proper test equipment and inspection records.
- Ensure measuring and testing equipment is properly identified and calibrated.
- Coordinate with external laboratories/agencies for testing and certification wherever required.
- Ensure production and inspection processes comply with applicable BIS/IS standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements.
E. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare daily/weekly/monthly production and quality reports.
Maintain records of:
Production output
Rejection and rework
Material consumption
Process inspection
Final inspection
Testing
Customer complaints
CAPA
Machine downtime
Productivity
Maintain proper traceability of production batches/lots wherever applicable.
Assist in preparation and maintenance of documents required under the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
F. Customer Complaint & Corrective Action
- Investigate customer complaints related to product quality and performance.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to identify the root cause.
- Prepare corrective and preventive action reports.
- Monitor effectiveness of corrective actions and ensure recurrence is prevented.
- Support customer inspections and audits when required.
G. Team & Shop-Floor Coordination
- Monitor operators and production personnel to ensure adherence to approved processes and work instructions.
- Provide training and guidance on quality requirements, inspection procedures, and process controls.
- Ensure proper housekeeping, workplace discipline, safety, and 5S practices on the shop floor.
- Promote a quality-conscious culture within the production team.
